(一)at first
该短语表示“最初;首先”，相当于at the beginning。比如：
It is easy at first, but we are in deep water now. (起先很容易，但现在我们陷入了困境。)
We didn"t trust him at first, but his charming manner completely disarmed us. (我们开始时并不信任他，但他令人愉快的举止完全消除了我们的疑虑。)
【注意】
注意区分at first和firstly，后者表示先后顺序中的“第一或首先”。如：
Firstly, China should have a development program for young fencers. (第一，中国应有一项培养少年儿童击剑运动员的发展计划。)
Firstly, let us deal with the most important issue. (首先，让我们来处理最紧要的问题。)
(二)at once
该短语表示“立即;同时”。当表示“立即”时，相当于immediately;当表示“同时”时，相当于at the same time。如：
立即：Go at once, or I will unleash my dog on you! (立刻走，要不我就放我的狗咬你!)
同时：We should not try to accomplish two tasks at once. (我们不能指望同时完成两件工作。)
(三)at home
该短语表示“在家里”。注意home前不要加任何修饰语。常和stay或be搭配使用。比如：
Please specify when you will be at home tomorrow. (请确切说明你明天何时会在家。)
You can stay at home and watch TV. ( 你可以待在家里并且看电视。)
He spent a lonesome evening at home. (他在家里度过了一个寂寞的夜晚。)
【注意】
注意at home也可以引申为“自在;熟悉”。如：
自在：Make the new students feel at home in your school. (让新生们在你们的学校里感到舒适自在。)
熟悉：He is at home with this subject. ( 他熟悉这一学科。)
(四)at present
该短语表示“现在;目前”。如：
At present the people in this country are increasingly awakening. (目前，这个国家的人民正在日益觉醒。)
(五)at last
该短语表示“最后;终于”。相当于at length。如：
最后：At last he successfully solved the problem. (最后他成功地解决了这个问题。)
终于：The government came out with the truth at last. (政府终于公布了事实*。)

二、更多常用短语
(十一)at all
该短语一般都采用否定表达，即：not/no...at all，表示“根本不”。如：
She does not care about her husband at all. ( 她根本不关心她的丈夫。)
I assure you that you will feel no pain at all. (我保证你根本不会觉得疼的。)

该短语表示“在危险中”，相当于in danger或at risk。如：

该短语表示“详细地;在逃的”。如：
